Istructions for portfolios:

Applications for the artist alley and artisans are made with a portfolio. Shumicon staff members will make the selection amongst the applicants. We try to choose a wide variety of different sellers.

At Shumicon’s artist alley and artisan tables, the subject area is free. However, we recommend that the subjects of the products you’re selling fit in some way with Shumicon’s themes, i.e. anime, manga, video games and Japanese popular culture in general. Fan art and original works are equal power in the selection process.

You can also sell self-made jewellery, accessories, handicrafts and also 3D prints if you have modeled them yourself. However, please make sure that your own personal touch is also visible in handicrafts and jewelry. Reselling products is not allowed in the artist alley.

Due to the timing of Shumicon Shoppu, Christmas themed products are also welcome.

  • The portfolio is to be delivered either as a PDF file or as a website. You can deliver the PDF e.g. in a Google Drive folder.

Tip: You can make your portfolio in e.g. Canvas, PowerPoint or Google Slides and save the portfolio as a PDF in them. However, don’t send the link directly to Canva or Google Slide, but just send a PDF file!

  • If it is not possible for you to create a PDF file or website, you can also create a separate folder in Google Drive/Dropbox/OneDrive where you add only images. Please note that a social media channel (e.g. Instagram) does not qualify as a portfolio as is.

  • Make sure that the portfolio can be viewed by anyone who received the link.

  • The format of the portfolio is free, and the number of images is not limited! However, it is good for the portfolio to be of a reasonable size: it is not necessary to present every product that comes to the table. The ideal number of pictures is about 5-15 pictures. There can also be more pictures within reason. Please avoid long paragraps of text.

Tip: You can present your products as e.g. product categories and present a few product images from each category.
Tip: If you sell, for example, 30 different stickers, feel free to take a picture of all the stickers and attach it to your portfolio, even if the stickers are unrelated.

  • The portfolio can also include unfinished and upcoming products, e.g. sketches and mock-ups. However, it is recommended to also display finished products in the portfolio.

  • Try to present products that you would be selling in Shumicon Shoppu. Do not put photos in the portfolio that are not related to the products for sale.

  • You can add a picture of a previous table in your portfolio or draw up a plan of what your table would look like.

  • If you wish, you can also introduce yourself and write briefly about your products. You can also tell us in more detail what you sell and what subjects you draw on. In particular, it is good to tell about the more special ways of crafting your products if there are any.

  • If there are two applicants, you can make a joint portfolio or send both of your personal portfolios. The portfolios must be in the same application form.

  • The portfolio evaluates the applicant’s products and art, not so much the appearance of the portfolio. However, make sure that the portfolio is clear and understandable.
