What is Shumicon Shoppu?
Shumicon Shoppu is a one-day, free to attend shopping event. Shoppu is like a combined artist alley and vendor hall. You will find familiar vendors and artists you’ve probably seen at conventions vending at Shoppu. Shumicon Shoppu is just a month before Christmas, so it is also the best place to do shopping for Christmas presents! In the case of overcrowding Shumicon reserves the right to limit access inside the venue.
Please note that Shoppu is not a convention. There is no programme or space reserved for hanging around.
What is an artist alley?
Artist alley is an area within anime conventions where independent artists can sell their original and fan art works and merchandise. Artist alleys are a ”from one fan to another” type of vending space.
Where is Shumicon Shoppu held?
Shumicon Shoppu is held in Musiikkitalo’s main foyer, in the center of Helsinki right next to the Main Railway Station and Oodi Library. Musiikkitalo’s address is Mannerheimintie 13a, 00100 Helsinki. More info on how to arrive to the venue you can find on Musiikkitalo’s website. The closest car parking halls are the paid Aimo Park Finlandia and EuroPark P-Eliel.
I want to vend at Shumicon Shoppu!
Applications to Shumicon Shoppu will open in August 2025. The application will happen by submitting a portfolio and filling a form. Anyone can apply to vend at Shoppu, but we hope to see the product selection have some relation to Shumicon’s themes which are anime, manga, Japanese pop culture, video games, role playing games and generally nerd culture. All vendor spots include a fee. The vendor spot fees will go directly towards the venue rent, as Shumicon Shoppu is non-profit event.
Is cosplaying allowed in Shumicon Shoppu?
No, we do not endorse cosplaying at Shumicon Shoppu as this is not a convention. There is no cloakroom service, dressing rooms or space reserved for simply hanging around. All cosplay props are prohibited inside the venue. The venue is reserved fully for Shoppu vendors and in the case of overcrowding Shumicon reserves the right to limit the amount of attendees entering the venue. Please dress accordingly to the weather.
Is there a cloakroom at Shumicon Shoppu?
There are no cloakroom services at Shoppu. Please be prepared to carry your jacket and bag with you during your visit. Please note that suitcases and large bags are not allowed inside either. The closest suitcase and luggage storage is at the Central Railway Station.
Will the Shumicafe be open?
– This time there will not be a Shumicafe, as Musiikkitalo has their own café which has delicious sweet and savoury goods on sale.
Who is the organizer behind Shumicon Shoppu?
– Shumicon Shoppu is organized by Pääkaupunkiseudun Cosplay Ry, a non-profit association from Helsinki. The association organizes different events and gatherings where anyone interested in cosplay is welcome regardless of age or place of residency.
Shumicon Shoppu abides by the principles of a safer space for all.
