Volunteering

Would you like to be a part of making Shumicon?
Come and volunteer at Shumicon!

Shumicon is completely done via volunteering and we need those helping hands!

The event’s volunteers – which in Shumicon’s case go by the name Tirppa, meaning small bird – have a very important role in the event: without them the event wouldn’t happen! As a volunteer, you could for example try working in customer service tasks in the cloakroom or in the staff’s breakroom Green Room. Depending on your skills you can also work in tech, logistics or help different supervisors for example at the artist alley or the cosplay competition backstage. If you’re ready to work in any role, you can apply as an all-purpose-tirppa and help in other teams as needed.

As a volunteer, aka tirppa, you get to peek behind the scenes and make the event happen!

As a tirppa you get:

  • Free entry to the event’s paid activities
  • Warm meal on the day you’re working
  • Entry to the staff’s breakroom Green Room for the whole event, which offers refreshments and snacks
  • Lots of new acquaintances
  • Valuable work experience

Tirppas are expected to be at least 16 years old and provide a minimum of 8 hours of work during the event. You can complete this work in one longer shift or in a couple of shorter ones. No previous experience is required to be a tirppa. We will train you for your tasks and provide support for first-timers during the event.

NOTE: Certain roles (Green Room, security, info desk, and ticket sales) have additional requirements such as a hygiene passport, security guard license, and being at least 18 years old! We’d appreciate it if you know at least some Finnish, and some roles require good Finnish skills.

The call for volunteers is open from 1.12.2024 to 2.2.2025. Applications close on 2.2.2025 at 23:59. Applications are made through Kompassi. The link to Kompassi will be added to this page closer to when the application period starts.

If you have questions about the volunteer application, you can reach out to us either on Instagram or via email at tyovoima@shumicon.fi.
