You can also use the theme of the event to help you plan your program. Shumicon 2025’s theme is: Romance

At Shumicon you can talk about your hobby and share your enthusiasm with others, either in the form of lectures, panels or discussion circles. We are also looking for side programs related to the topic of the event, such as workshops, meets, competitions, dance, performances and music. Only the sky is the limit to what kind of program you can come and host at Shumicon!

If you have a new idea for a program that we didn’t mention above, feel free to apply and tell us your idea. We are always looking for new program to inspire our visitors.

At Shumicon program hosts and presenters are entitled to certain benefits. These benefits include a ticket to the event and access to the Green Room to relax during the event. Hosts and presenters are entitled to benefits by giving one speaking program or running at least 4 hours of other programs such as workshops at the event.

Please note: Meet organizers are not offered the same benefits as performers, program hosts, and volunteer workers.

This year Shumicon’s program and performer applications will be conducted via Google Forms. In the form, we ask for the contact information of the program host, as well as the name and description of the program. Please read the instructions below carefully before filling out the form.

  • Please make sure that your program is somehow related to Shumicon’s topics.
  • At Shumicon we strive to offer speaking program that has not been heard anywhere else before. If you have previously presented your program at another event or a program on the same topic, we recommend giving that program a new perspective.
  • We recommend that you use slides in your program. Each lecture hall has a projector that you can use to project your presentation onto a whiteboard. We also recommend that you use more images than text in your slides, as the audience wants to listen to the presenter and look at illustrative images, rather than read text on a screen.
  • It is better to have too much material than too little. It is a shame for the audience if the program is too short.
  • We also recommend checking that the material you’re using, images, videos, etc. do not contain age-restricted, offensive, illegal or violent material.
    • If you suspect that the program your presenting requires an age limit, please contact the program team by email at: ohjelma@shumicon.fi
Our dedicated program coordinators can offer you advice and assess a possible age limit for the program.
  • Shumicon’s program slots are 45 and 75 minutes.
Choose a option that best suits your program. We recommend that you practice your program at home several times to stay within your time limit. This way you can tell if you need to take out material or add it to fill the entire program slot.
    • At the beginning of each program, there is 15 minutes of preparation time during which you can prepare the slides, test the technology with the help of the program assistant, and let the audience in.
  • If you need help or have any questions, please contact the program team: ohjelma@shumicon.fi. The program coordinators will be happy to help you with your program.
  • For workshops we offer 45, 75, 105 and 135 minute slots. Workshops are an opportunity to teach a skill, for example various handicrafts, to the participants. The workshop can be held on a wide variety of different topics, such as sewing, knitting, dancing, wig styling or even a specific role-playing or card game, teaching others the rules of the game. We cannot host cooking workshops due to the lack of kitchen facilities. Shumicon is not responsible for the materials of the workshops or their procurement. The workshop organizer are allowed to charge a fee from the participants to cover the costs of materials.
  • For meets there is a 60-minute slot. Meets are an opportunity for fans of different series, hobbies and games to get together to get to know each other, spend time and discuss the topic of the meet. Please note that holding a meet does not entitle you to free admission and you will have to obtain admission yourself. The meet organizer is responsible for the general cleanliness of the room at the end of the meet and to ensure that the meeting starts and ends on time.
  • For competitions, skits, quizzes, etc. there is a 75, 105 and 135 minute slots. We hope that the organizers will provide competition formats related to the theme of the event. Cash prizes or gift card prizes are not allowed at Shumicon.
  • If you need help or have any questions, please contact the program team: ohjelma@shumicon.fi. The program coordinators will be happy to help you with your program.
