How to find us
Shumicon will be held on 10.–11.4.2027 in Dipoli, which is in Otaniemi, Espoo. Dipoli is a part of the Aalto University campus-area. The exact address is Otakaari 24, 02150 Espoo.
You can easily reach Shumicon by public transport as well as with car. The walk from the Aalto University metro station is very short, roughly 550 meters from the nearer exit. You can also reach Dipoli easily with the speed tram 15, by getting off at the Aalto University (M) stop.
The easiest way to find the best route is by using the HSL (HRT) Itinerary. Aalto University also has their own very easy to follow maps and instructions.
Parking
Near Dipoli there are several parking areas, with the nearest one being Dipoli’s own yard park All parking in Otaniemi area is paid parking, and they can be found with both EasyPark and ParkMan apps. You can find additional information from Aalto University’s website. You can also consider HSL (HRT) Park and Ride parking.
Cloakroom
You can leave your belongings depending on their size either in the jacket cloakroom or the larger luggage storage. Using the cloakrooms is free of charge. The jacket cloakroom can be found in the Juhla-aula, near the toilets, while the large luggage storage will be in Käpyaula.
There is limited space in all cloakrooms, and during rush times they may fill up very fast. Please be prepared to keep smaller items with you during the convention day, and consider leaving your luggage at your accommodation.
You can leave smaller bags, jackets and such in the jacket cloakroom. Suitcases, large cosplayprops and bigger bags and backpacks will generally be redirected to the larger luggage storage. There are always volunteers present at both cloakrooms. All belongings left in the cloakrooms remain the owner’s responsibility, so please don’t leave your most valuable belongings in the cloakrooms.
When entering the Main Performance hall or Lumituuli auditorium, all bags must be left in the cloakroom. When visiting the Vendor’s Hall or Artist Alley, all large cosplay props and bags should be left at the large luggage storage.
Dressing rooms
Shumicon will have one unisex dressing room, which can be found on the first floor, in the room Poli. Exactly opposite to Poli is the nearest toilet, which should be used to put in contact lenses, add hairspray etc. There will be a selection of tools available in the dressing room, such as safety pins, hairspray and some types of glue. The dressing room is not a storage – do not leave your belongings in the dressing room and clean up after your use.
If you use a hot glue gun, iron or curling iron, always detach them from the electrical socket after use! Photography and videography is strictly prohibited in the dressing room.
Water stations
There will be water stations around the venue for use. We warmly recommend keeping your own water battle with you while at the event. There will be a limited amount of single use cups near the water stations.
Accessibility
Shumicon is held in Dipoli, which is a part of the Aalto university campus area in Otaniemi. The venue is mainly accessible all around, but there are some small ramps and different levels to the floors due to the architecture of the venue.
Passage and parking
Parking: Next to the building is one accessible car parking spot (width at least 3,6m) from which the distance to the main entrance is over 10 meters.
Convoys: Convoy traffic (such as taxis) can stop less than 5 meters from main entrance.
Navigating the venue
Accessibility: Main routes and rooms can be entered with all types of accessibility tools. There is one elevator for moving between first and second floors.
Differences in leveling: There are some in-between levels between floors, which may require the use of an elevator or ramp.
Toilets: The building includes 2 accessible toilets; one on the first floor, another one on the second.
Tickets and aides
European Disability Card: Should a paying customer possess the European Disability Card, their aide can enter the event for no extra charge. The card holder and aide can also skip any lines at the main entrance. More info can be found on the Tickets page.
Programme rooms and accessible seating
Kaleva (main performance hall) (2nd floor): The room has a flat floor, so accessible seats can be allocated into the hall effortlessly. Passage to the hall happens by taking the elevator and passing through other rooms on the second floor.
Lumituuli (1st floor): The auditorium has a rising auditorium seating. Accessiblea seats can be found at the highest level, which is at the same level as the rest of the 1st floor.
Programme room, game room and dressing room: Palaver (programmes), Takka (game room) and Poli (dressing room) are all located on the first floor. There is a very small ramp leading to their corridor.
Should you need any help with finding a specific room or moving in the venue, Shumicon’s security guards and volunteer will be happy to help you.
❗️Please note: some programme can include bright lights and loud audio. Warnings for these will be included in the descriptions for the programmes they concern.
Accessible toilets
Both floors of Dipoli have an accessible toilet available for use.
1st floor: Accessible toilets are available near Lumituuli as well as in the corridor leading to Palaver, Poli and Takka. They have separate, clear markings and there is at least 1,5m of space to turn around with an accessibility tool. There are handrails on both sides of the toilet seat.
2nd floor: The toilet is near the elevator.
Strollers and childcare tables
Childcare tables can be found from within the accessible toilets. We recommend using the first floor toilets, which are more easy to get to with a stroller.
Strollers
Strollers can be brought into the event, however due to possible crowding, we recommend choosing a stroller model that can be folded up easily, a babysling or other alternatives.
There is no separate storage area for strollers. Please also note that we cannot let strollers into the programme rooms (main hall Kaleva, Lumituuli auditorium, game room).
